The Crowne Plaza, Jaipur

The Inter Continental Hotels Group (IHG) has recently added a new addition to their long chain of spectacular hotel, the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Jaipur. This recently opened, upscale, chic and contemporary hotel is the newest social and business hub located at Tonk Road and is part of the Sitapura area in the vibrant city of Jaipur. The hotel is just minutes away from Jaipur International Airport and Jaipur Exhibition and Convention Centre JECC. 

This impressive and colossal hotel is touted to be the next best destination in Jaipur for weddings, business meets, honeymoons or family retreats. It can purvey to all kinds of events, business conferences and clientele with its 218 rooms and 20 suites.

The hotel has multitudinous aspects and elements that are aesthetically appreciable but the most striking and discernible element is its magnificent and monumental glass façade. The facade features a double skin of extruded terra cotta creating a modern interpretation of the traditional indian “jaali” and the building is protected from the environment by this double skin (‘Jaali’) which is prevalent in Rajasthani architecture. It acts as a thermal buffer between the building and the surroundings as the outer skin reduces the direct heat gain through apertures, yet allowing for diffused daylight enabling the hotel retain a cool temperature throughout the day, even in the scorching Rajasthani summers. 

The density of the perforated outer skin has been intelligently derived using computational shadow analysis based on orientation and the primary weathering facade is comprised of semi unitised low E glass and structural glass at the ground floor. The double glass unit ensures a lower carbon footprint and allows maximum natural light, while minimising heat transmission. The use of materials such as  Composite Aluminium panels, local sandstone and terracotta in the facade serves the function of 3 filters- air, light, and privacy. During the daytime, the terra cotta provides shading and as soon the sun sets this beautiful facade transforms into a traditional Rajasthani lantern igniting the evening.
